At Cake in the City we are continually improving to better satisfy our customers. Creating a monthly cake schedule is our latest update. We no longer want to see disappointed looks on the faces of our customers because they anticipated biting into a slice of cake that isn’t being offered that week. Well it’s been a week since Daylight Savings Time ended and we are still adjusting! Cake in the City will now close at 6pm. Don’t worry, if you are rushing home from work and not sure that you will make it on time just call us and we will have your order waiting for pick-up at 6pm.

Happy National Bundt Cake Day! This is such a fun holiday to celebrate because at Cake in the City we love bundt cakes! Somehow baking a cake in a bundt pan gives it a homemade style that you just can’t achieve with a round cake.
In addition to our pound cake, we also like to bake our combination cakes in bundt pans such as Lemon Raspberry Swirl and Pumpkin Swirl! Today, we baked a Chocolate Rum Cake in celebration of National Bundt Cake Day, stop by for a slice!
Baking Tip: If your bundt cake doesn’t come out of the pan as smooth as you would like, add a drizzle on top and no one will know! The drizzle also gives you added flavor! Our favorite drizzle flavor is LEMON, we drizzle it on top of fresh pound cakes daily!

If you’ve subscribed to Cake in the City’s youtube channel, you already know that our father is a Veteran and pound cake is his favorite dessert. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Monday Nov 11th, we will be giving all Veteran’s a free mini pound cake on Saturday November 9th (we are closed on Mondays). As promised in the video, here are a few additional tips for baking a great pound cake:
1. Grease the pan. Vegetable shortening, such as Crisco, dusted with flour works will, so does Baker’s Joy. Whatever you do, don’t pour the batter in the pan before you grease it!
2. Mix, mix, mix. Good baking takes time so don’t rush the process. When adding ingredients give them a chance to mix together well before adding the next ingredient.
3. Don’t overcook. Test for doneness by inserting a long toothpick or knife into the center of the cake. If it comes out clean the cake is done. Since the pan and cake are still hot they will continue to cook moments after coming out of the oven, so once the toothpick is clean take it out immediately to avoid a dry cake.
4. Topping. Flavored drizzles, such as lemon, almond, pineapple, and chocolate add a delicious touch. Another great idea is to top your pound cake with fresh fruit and eat it while enjoying a nice cup of coffee.

I have to start Cake in the City’s blog with a bit of transparency… we are not a family of bloggers or social media enthusiasts. So for a while I pondered about possible blog topics, and although I don’t have a long list of things to talk (or blog) about, I’ve found a place to start by revealing something about myself! Yay!
Out of the MANY desserts we bake daily one of the things I can’t keep my paws off is the sweet potato pie, it is my absolute favorite! Prior to opening the bakery I researched recipes and collected them from family members not realizing the BEST sweet pie lived in the heart of my mother!! You see, when I find something I like, I stick to it. So for years, per my request, my mother baked an apple pie for my birthday, and I was fine with that until she baked a sweet potato pie!
When baking a pie, she is so particular. There is only one store in Orlando where she will purchase the sweet potatoes, every ingredient is measured exactly, and there is a certain order and time frame that the ingredients are mixed together. Although we’ve tried to replicate her sweet potato pie the taste and texture is never the same. She must bake them, ALL of them!
So, from one sweet potato pie lover to another, this is a pie you don’t want to miss out on this holiday season!
Baking Tip: Always use quality ingredients, it definitely makes a difference!
